Advice and information can be given over the telephone by calling the "Helpline", in office hours or by letter, fax or e-mail.
Information can thus be obtained instantly if the telephone is used and always within a day or so when using other communication methods.
Information on late breaking topics is often more up to date and indeed accurate than that provided by many of the government agencies involved.

"What is happening about the extra money announced by the Chancellor to help with increases in council tax?"
SBC knows the answer!
The Benefits Service is convenient because with just one telephone call or other contact the subscriber can obtain information on any area of state benefits.
